The Meaning Behind the Team Name: Douglass
Frederick Douglass delivered the last public appearance of his life in West Chester — a public lecture at the West Chester Normal School against lynching lawns. In 1847, Douglass founded The North Star, an abolitionist newspaper based in Rochester, New York. The paper was named after the star that guided many enslaved people to freedom in the North.
Frederick Douglass remains one of the most influential figures in American history. His writings and speeches continue to inspire movements for social justice, civil rights, and equality. He died on February 20, 1895, in Washington, D.C., leaving behind a legacy of courage, intellect, and unyielding advocacy for human rights.
